TheImperial German Army(German:Deutsches Heer) was the unified ground and air force of theGerman Empire(excluding the maritime aviation formations of theImperial German Navy). The termDeutsches Heeris also used for the modernGerman Army, the land component of theBundeswehr. The German Army was formed after the unification of Germany underPrussianleadership in 1871 and dissolved in 1919, after the defeat of the German Empire inWorld War I.
